Michael S. Loeffler, Partner
Michael S. Loeffler practices in the areas of insurance coverage, professional liability, employment, financial fraud investigation, estate planning matters, and commercial litigation. He represents domestic, London market insurers, and international insurers and reinsurers in coverage litigation, coverage evaluation, and policy drafting related to financial institution bonds, errors and omissions, directors and officers insurance coverage, financial fraud, commercial general liability, employment practice liability, cash in transit, and personal accident, property, and life/health insurance matters.
Mr. Loeffler regularly represents financial planners and advisors in matters before the NASD and SEC and advises life insurance agents and brokers on regulatory and planning matters.
Mr. Loeffler’s practice also involves the defense of certain professionals, including attorneys, accountants, real estate agents/brokers, insurance agents/brokers, adjusters, actuaries, architects, and engineers. He regularly counsels clients on employment practice liability issues and has been involved in numerous employment/labor arbitrations and mediations.
In addition, Mr. Loeffler regularly advises lawyers, collection agencies, and creditors on aspects of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, and other consumer statutes. He has defended numerous class action lawsuits brought under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and is a frequent speaker and author regarding the FDCPA.
Mr. Loeffler received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of California at Los Angeles School of Law in 1985. He received his undergraduate degree in finance from the University of Illinois in 1981. Mr. Loeffler is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Seventh and Tenth Circuits, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and the Illinois Supreme Court.
Mr. Loeffler is a member of the American Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association, the Professional Liability Underwriting Society, the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, and the Chicago Council on Global Affairs. He has been acknowledged by Chicago Lawyer Magazine as a Top Civil-Defense Related Lawyer and has been selected by his peers as a member of the Leading Lawyers Network for his work in insurance and reinsurance coverage.
